What is dog agility? Dog agility started out as intermission entertainment during dog shows in England in the late 1970's. The sport was developed from stadium horse jumping, with modifications to accommodate dogs. Now dog agility is an extremely popular sport with 5 major venues to compete in here in the United States: CPE, NADAC, AKC, USDAA, and DOCNA. Agility is a sport that any person can do and dogs of any breed/combination of breeds can do. The only restriction is that your dog should be fit and healthy. Agility is a fun team sport that creates a wonderful bond between handler and dog. It is challenging for the handler as well as the dog. The sport is about communicating with your dog to help them navigate through a course of obstacles. The courses get increasingly difficult as your skills increase. Obstacles include:
Jumps Tire Jumps Tunnels
wing jump Teeter Weave poles
Chute A-Frame Dog Walk
