HALL' S  CANINE  Cannonball

Matt and I were living in a trailer and building our home when we decided we needed a companion.  Matt's first Golden, Julie, was such a great dog, he didn't want to consider another breed.  We found the perfect puppy in Greenwood, only 10 miles from Home.  We intended to look at many litters before deciding on a puppy, but when that 3 week old puppy left her mommy and siblings to come introduce herself to us, it was all over!  It was as if she was asking us to take her home.  5 weeks later we did.

Cannon is a one in a million dog.  She is smart, self confident and devoted to her humans.  She learned the rules of the job site very quickly, earning for herself the title JDX, Job Dog Excellent. She can always be found near Matt, whether he's on a job or working in the shop here at home.  She is especially fond of riding in his truck and often stays near it when it's parked.

Cannon's favorite thing to do is fetch a Frisbee.  She's a ham, the more people who watch, the higher she will jump to catch it.  She is an excellent swimmer.  When at the lake we will throw a bunch of sticks out in the water and she will bring as many as she can in at a time before going out to get more.  When she's done, there is a neat pile of sticks for us to throw again.

Cannon ignored our first son Rick for a month when he was born, thinking that he would go away.  Once she realized how special he was to us, she took on the job of watching out for him.  When he would toddle around the yard, she was never very far away.  Our second child, Tony, adores Cannon.  When he is sleepy or upset he curls up with her on the living room floor, sucking his thumb and stroking her ear.

Cannon is still an active at 16 years old.  She loves to take walks and will occasionally fetch.  As her eyes and ears don't work as well as they used to, she relies on her nose, which is still fantastic.  She's never far from the dining room table as we eat, just in case something falls on the floor.  Cannon has given up her spot as head of the pack, but is still helping to train up the new generations.  She has taught them the rules of the house and proper dog behavior.  We are hoping she will train up at least one more puppy for us.
